Rails GraphQL backend work for a concrete delivery ERP and marketplace.

Table of Contents

Context

ToughCommerce, formerly Brokrete, is a team-built B2B concrete delivery ERP and marketplace. The 2024–2025 system covers multi-tenant operations, order lifecycle work, invoicing, Stripe, QuickBooks synchronization, and Sidekiq jobs. Its Rails API uses graphql-ruby with GraphQL Pro.

Problem

The product needed backend changes across a large domain model while retaining clear API behavior for operational workflows. Incidents also required faster investigation when information was spread across system signals and support channels.

Approach

  • Implemented Rails backend work across GraphQL types, mutations, resolvers, subscriptions, and specs.
  • Worked on invoice creation, invoice status lifecycle, and invoice search filters.
  • Implemented TypeScript API-layer work for Stripe webhook handlers and Slack dispute clients.
  • Built API and AI/MCP tooling used in incident diagnosis.
  • Worked within the existing Docker and configuration setup.

Outcome

The incident tooling reduced time-to-diagnosis from hours to minutes. The GraphQL work covered invoice and search paths within the existing Rails API, while the webhook and dispute-client work connected external operational events to that backend.
